President Vladimir Putin discussed over the phone preparations for a session of the Collective Security Council in May with the leaders of member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO)

April 16, 2002

Vladimir Putin spoke with Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev, Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Consultations with CSTO allies were devoted to the further perfection of the CSTO political and military structure and also to preparations for a session of the Collective Security Council to be held in Moscow on May 14. These consultations took into account the progress achieved in creating a new mechanism of Russia-NATO interaction.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev. They discussed, among other things, Russian-Kazakh trade and economic cooperation, including in the fuel and energy sector.

The President also exchanged opinions on preparations for the Caspian countries’ summit in Ashgabat.
