Mr Fukuda thanked Mr Putin for his warm words of congratulation upon his election to the post of Prime Minister of Japan and said that he remains firmly committed to continuing the policy of actively developing relations between Russia and Japan, which are an important factor in strengthening strategic stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr Putin stressed that Russia is also committed to working intensively on carrying out the Russian-Japanese Action Plan and expanding cultural and youth ties at all levels.

The conversation took place on Japan’s initiative.
