Jacques Chirac thanked President Putin for the compliment, and for the message of congratulations he had received shortly after the election returns were announced. He stressed that the development of relations with Russia would remain a French foreign policy priority.

For his part the Russian head of state expressed confidence that the relations between Russia and France would be firmly established as a global partnership through common efforts.

Vladimir Putin and Jacques Chirac exchanged congratulations to the peoples of Russia and France in connection with Victory Day.

During their talk the two leaders discussed the schedule for bilateral contacts for the near future.
