President Vladimir Putin met with President Askar Akayev of Kyrgyzstan

The Russian President expressed concern over the decline of trade with Kyrgyzstan which had dropped by 25% compared with 2000. He called on his Kyrgyz counterpart to take vigorous steps to rectify the situation on both sides.

At the same time Mr Putin gave a positive assessment of the military-technical cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.

Another topic at the talks was the Russian Culture Days which opened in Bishkek. Mr Akayev said he was in a hurry to be back in Bishkek in time for a Bolshoi ballet performance tomorrow.
