Vladimir Putin and Eduard Shevardnadze discussed relevant bilateral issues in light of the recent Russia-Georgian exchanges at various levels. On the issue of cooperation in the fight against terrorism, the situation in the Pankisi Gorge was touched upon.
The Georgian President congratulated Mr Putin on the successful conclusion of the Russian-American Summit describing its results as the biggest breakthrough since the end of the Cold War.
The telephone conversation took place on the request of the Georgian side.
