Vladimir Putin sent a greeting to the participants of the XVII summit between the heads of Latin American states

November 8, 2007

The Forum is taking place in Santiago (Chile).

The message reads, in part:

”I am glad to welcome the participants of this authoritative and influential summit that brings together countries from two continents based on principles of creative partnership.

Ibero-American summits have proved themselves to be important mechanisms for dialogue based on a collective discussion of the key problems on the global and regional agenda. And this year, a range of topical issues that have significant practical importance will be discussed at your summit.

Today, economic stability and well-being are directly dependent on finding gradual and efficient solutions to social problems and ensuring social harmony. In this respect Russia's position matches the approach taken by the Ibero-American community. Russia is currently carrying out national projects in health care, education, housing and agriculture. It is precisely these spheres that affect each individual, determine their quality of life, and lay the grounds for an educated and healthy nation. In the future, we will continue to strive to consistently implement the tasks that lie ahead of us, including through active international cooperation. We are ready for a significant increase in cooperation with the states members of the Ibero-American community, both on a bilateral and multilateral basis, with a view to helping social and economic progress, as well as strengthening peace and security.''
