Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation in connection with the Reduction of Number of Voters' Signatures in support of Candidates for Election to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Federal Lists and Clarifying the Reasons for Registration of Candidates and Lists of Candidates for Election to Governmental Agencies and Local Government Bodies

June 4, 2009

Among other things, the federal law provides that when electing deputies to the sixth State Duma, political parties collecting voters' signatures in support of their federal list of candidates must collect at least 150,000 signatures (at present it is at least 200,000). For the election of deputies to future Dumas this number will be at least 120,000 signatures. The amendments also affect the number of signatures collected in a single constituent entity of the Russian Federation and the number of signatures of voters living abroad.

Corresponding changes have been made to federal laws On Election of Deputies to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, On Election of the President of the Russian Federation and On Basic Guarantees of Electoral Rights and Right to Participate in Referendums of Citizens of the Russian Federation.
