President Vladimir Putin made a working visit to St Petersburg

November 26, 2007

Mr Putin visited several residential districts in the St Petersburg suburbs, in particular, the Novaya Izhora district where an experiment to develop construction of low-scale housing is underway. Seven different types of houses have been designed for the district and 150 such homes have already been built.

The President visited the nearby Slavyansky Housing Construction Plant and learned about its work. The Slavyansky plant has automated production facilities manufacturing components for the rapid construction of low-scale housing.

Mr Putin then visited a new residential district for military servicemen’s families in Pushkin. The President visited several apartments, studied their design and was received in the home of one of the officers. Over a cup of tea, Mr Putin noted that the problem of old and run-down housing is an urgent issue not just for St Petersburg but for other regions too. The President said that the state will continue to work on resolving the housing problems faced by military servicemen, including retired servicemen.

The President also met with the finalists in the ‘Our Country’s Professional Team’ project. The project aims to form a national human resources base for the needs of all economic sectors and state agencies at all levels. More than 18,000 people applied to take part in the project. A multi-stage selection process resulted in 40 most promising candidates being chosen.
