November 28, 2007, Moscow

At a reception for the heads of diplomatic missions President Vladimir Putin said, that Russia is following the road of democratic development and its priority is to guarantee human rights and liberties in law and in practice and to create the conditions for all citizens to realise their full potential.

Russia today is a stable and predictable country open to constructive cooperation with foreign partners, and this is reflected in the social and economic results it has achieved and the fact that it is now one of the world’s ten biggest economies, said Mr Putin.

The President noted that Russia’s priorities on the international stage include relations with the CIS countries, strengthening the role of the United Nations in international affairs and increasing Russia’s contribution to the work of the G8.

Approximately 200 people, the heads of all diplomatic missions and a number of international organisations’ representative offices in Moscow were invited to attend the reception in the Grand Kremlin Palace’s St George Hall.

This is the first time such an event has been held for foreign diplomats.
