Vladimir Putin made changes to the Russian law ”On State Secrets“

December 3, 2007

The changes are designed to regulate the public relations resulting from the transfer of the state secrets of the Russian Federation to international organizations.

At present the issue of transferring the state secrets of the Russian Federation to international organizations is not regulated by law.

However, the Russian Federation's membership in various international organizations and cooperation with international organizations has resulted in the need to regulate the process of transferring data classified within the state secrets of the Russian Federation.

To address this issue the current mechanism used for transferring such data to foreign states will be enlarged to include international organizations. In connection with this, articles 4 and 18 of the Russian law ”On State Secrets“ will receive additional relevant provisions.
