President Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding the Pushkin Medal to a number of foreign public and political figures and members of the scientific and cultural communities

The medal is awarded for making a great contribution to the study and promotion of the Russian language, the preservation of cultural heritage and the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of different cultures and peoples.

The award’s recipients include Francoise Duchesne, chief inspector for the Russian language at the French Ministry of National Education’s Foreign Languages Department, Philippe Comte, president of the French Association of Russian Language Teachers, Helene Mel, vice president of the French Association of Russian Language Teachers, Michel Hautcouturier, professor of Russian language at Paris-1 Sorbonne University, and Bernadette Chirac, president of the French Pont Neuf Association.
