President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Government Cabinet

Economic Development and Trade Minister Elvira Nabiullina gave updated forecasts for Russia’s social and economic development over 2008–2010.

Regional Development Minister Dmitry Kozak reported on the Government’s upcoming examination of a federal targeted programme to develop southern Russia. Mr Putin instructed the Cabinet to pay maximum attention to social issues in approving the programme.

First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov reported on a planned visit to the Micron Enterprise in Zelenograd to open a new microchip production line.

Deputy Prime Minister and Government Chief of Staff Sergei Naryshkin informed the meeting that agreements between the governments of Russia, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan on cooperation in building the Caspian Pipeline are ready for signature.

Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov reported on his upcoming visit to Sakhalin Island, where cleanup and reconstruction work is underway following the earthquake that struck the region, and to Khabarovsk, where he will chair a meeting of the state commission for developing the Far East and the Trans-Baikal regions.
