Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner as she assumed the presidency

December 11, 2007

The message reads, in part:

“We highly value our good relations with Argentina. They are based on feelings of friendship and mutual empathy. It is heartening to see that Russian-Argentinian cooperation is becoming more substantive. Our approaches to the problems of strengthening global and regional security, the fight against terrorism, organized crime, illegal drug trafficking, and other transnational challenges and threats have a great deal in common. We both believe that collective principles should be further enhanced in international relations.

The political understanding we have creates favourable conditions for the further development of mutually advantageous trade and economic cooperation. We attach particular importance to implementing joint projects in areas such as space, nuclear energy, telecommunications, the fuel and energy complex, and transport. We are ready for more cooperation in the investment, military and technological spheres. We are interested in expanding our partnership in the cultural and educational spheres as well as our scientific, technical and cultural exchanges.

I am confident that this comprehensive pragmatic approach will allow us to further strengthen our relations”.

The message was transmitted by the President of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev.
