In the message the President thanked Christian Poncelet for his message of congratulations in connection with United Russia's victory in the parliamentary elections of 2 December 2007.

Vladimir Putin pointed out that ”the elections undoubtedly represent an important step towards ensuring the continuity and consistent implementation of the country's chosen course, including with respect to Russia's foreign policy, where priorities include further developing a comprehensive partnership with the Republic of France“.
