President Vladimir Putin sent a message of congratulations to President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on Kazakhstan's national holiday, Independence Day

December 16, 2007

The President’s message reads, in particular:

“The friendly people of Kazakhstan can be deservedly proud today of their achievements in social and economic development and state-building. Kazakhstan’s international authority is increasing from year to year and inter-ethnic relations within society are improving. The recent election to the lower house of parliament provided further convincing evidence of Kazakhstan’s desire to continue its steady progress along the road of democratic transformation and raising national prosperity.

We place particular importance on consistent effort to intensify the strategic partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan. Unprecedented active political dialogue at every level has contributed much to the rapid development of our multifaceted cooperation. Major new infrastructure projects in the fuel and energy sector, transport sector, and in peaceful use of nuclear energy have added substance to our relations this year. The development of a mutually beneficial partnership in high-technology sectors, in particular in the peaceful use of outer space, development of the Caspian Sea’s resources and the military-technical sector, is a positive trend. We also see good prospects ahead for working together on important cultural and humanitarian projects and developing inter-regional ties and cooperation between the border areas”.
