Mr Putin congratulated Mr Karimov on his victory in the December 23 presidential election in Uzbekistan.

Both leaders assessed highly the level of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in a wide range of areas and reiterated their readiness to continue to resolve all issues as allies and partners.

Mr Putin and Mr Karimov exchanged New Year’s greetings and discussed planned bilateral contacts, including at summit level.

The conversation took place on Russia’s initiative.
