The President viewed the new summer and winter uniforms for privates and officers at the Defence Ministry.

Vladimir Isakov, deputy defence minister and head of rear services, gave Mr Putin detailed explanations of each of the new models, noting their various distinctive features. Further clarifications were given by Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, and by fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin, who helped design the new uniforms.

Leading defence and scientific research institutes developed the new uniforms, which are made from unique Russian-developed materials that use membrane-based technology also created in Russia. Two mountain rifle brigades stationed in the North Caucasus have already been equipped with experimental models of the new uniform.
