The 33rd motorised rifle alpine brigade located in the village of Botlikh, Dagestan, showed the President various types of equipment, communications technology and electronic warfare, promising examples of small arms, as well as foreign and home-made weapons that were seized in the area.

The President also examined various types of military uniforms, including those designed to withstand minus 45 degrees Celsius, climbing equipment and special devices designed to serve in the mountains.

The President instructed Gazprom's leadership to intensify work on the problems of gas supply in this part of Dagestan, and ordered the Russian Ministry of Transport to prepare a plan together with the authorities of the republic on the strategy for further constructing roads in the region.

Vladimir Putin stressed that the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Ministry of Defense should pay more attention to the members of the home guard from Dagestan and their families, especially the families of those killed in combat.

The President also visited 121st rapid deployment unit of the Interior Ministry troops that are stationed in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. From the mobile control unit Vladimir Putin watched a televised version of the integrated tactical exercises of one of the regiment's battalions.

Vladimir Putin also visited the Defense Ministry's 34th motorised rifle alpine brigade in Zelenchukskaia town in Karachaevo-Cherkesia.

The motorised rifle alpine brigades deployed in Botlikh and Zelenchukskaia were established by presidential decree on 30 June 2006.

Vladimir Putin visited Botlikh in August 1999 as Russian Prime Minister. At the time he visited the site where Russian troops had fought against the Muslim extremists who had invaded Dagestan from Chechnya.
