During their one-on-one conversation the heads of state discussed various issues of bilateral relations. The talks continued with delegations from both countries.

President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia sees Uzbekistan as one of its most important strategic partners in the Central Asian region. In their talks they discussed strategic energy projects, including gas transportation and nuclear energy, as well as cooperation in the military-technical, high-tech and education sectors.

The President of Russia noted the successful cooperation between the two countries in the key areas of the international agenda, including the situation in Afghanistan and working together in the context of regional integration structures: CIS, the Eurasian Economic Community, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and other international organizations.

Following the Russian-Uzbekistan negotiations Vladimir Putin and Islam Karimov signed a joint statement.

Moreover, other joint documents were signed with the presidents in attendance, in particular an economic cooperation programme for 2008–2012, as well as an agreement on integrating the Chkalov Tashkent Aircraft Production Company and the Russian United Aircraft Building Corporation (UABC) .
