President Vladimir Putin met with employees of the United Aircraft Corporation

February 20, 2008, Zhukovsky, Moscow Region

The President announced that he has signed a decree on establishing a National Aircraft Manufacturing Centre in Zhukovsky.

This, Mr Putin’s sixth visit to Zhukovsky, coincided with the second anniversary of the signing of the Presidential Decree on Open Joint Stock Company United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) of February 20, 2006. A year earlier, a State Council Presidium meeting in Zhukovsky, chaired by the President, made the decision to unite Russia’s leading aircraft manufacturers in a single corporation.

A meeting of the UAC board of directors last week approved a development strategy for the corporation through to 2025. This strategy aims at making Russia the world’s seventh or eighth biggest aircraft manufacturing country in less than 20 years.

The UAC board of directors also approved a project to establish a National Aircraft Manufacturing Centre in Zhukovsky. Preliminary estimates put the cost of the project at more than $1 billion. The project will see the creation of a strong scientific and production cluster in Zhukovsky, which will include design bureaus, test facilities, a transport and exhibition centre and marketing companies.
