Mr Chavez congratulated President Vladimir Putin on the successful completion of the election campaign in Russia.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the way that concerted action in recent years has taken Russian-Venezuelan cooperation to a new level.

They emphasised the significant progress that has been made in developing trade and economic ties.

In relation to the tension that currently exists in the northern part of the South-American continent, the Russian President expressed the hope that all sides would make every effort to find a political and diplomatic solution for their disputes.

The conversation took place at the initiative of the Venezuelan side.
