In light of the election of a new Russian president and the session of the National People's Congress that is being held in Beijing and which will elect the new President and other Chinese leaders, Vladimir Putin and Hu Jintao exchanged sincere wishes for future success in their endeavors to ensure stable development in their respective countries.

The President of China congratulated the Russian President on the fact that, as the results of the presidential elections show, the chosen policies enjoy broad popular support in Russia.

Vladimir Putin emphasized that policy aimed at ensuring the full development of Russian-Chinese strategic cooperation will continue in the future.

During the talks Mr Jintao expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian assistance Russia provided to help overcome natural disasters in the south-eastern parts of China.
