In his letter, Mr Putin set out his views on the current state of bilateral relations and the outlook for their development. In particular, the President expressed the view that the Iraqi people are capable of building on their own a strong and independent Iraq that will help to bring stability to the region.

The letter was passed on by Alexander Saltanov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister and special presidential envoy for the Middle East, who is currently visiting Iraq.
