On the agenda were the United Nations’ current activities and development prospects and key international issues.
Mr Putin opened the meeting by saying that the UN is a universal organisation and a key part of the entire system of international relations. This is the position upon which Russia bases its relations with the organisation, the President said.
Mr Ban thanked Mr Putin for the cooperation and support that Russia offers the UN.
Earlier in the day, Mr Ban met with Russian President-Elect Dmitry Medvedev.
