Mrs Matviyenko informed the President about St Petersburg’s social and economic development results for 2007.
Production increased by 10 percent, capital investment came to almost 300 billion roubles, and foreign investment came to 6.5 billion roubles, Mrs Matviyenko said.
The Governor also reported on major infrastructure projects: the construction of the Leningrad Region ring-road highway, the erection of a system of flood protection installations, and plans to build a new airport.
Mrs Matviyenko also said that the birth rate in St Petersburg had risen by 7 percent, while the death rate had decreased by 5 percent.
