President Vladimir Putin congratulated Lenfilm and its team on the ninetieth anniversary of the film studio's founding

April 30, 2008

“Lenfilm has made a memorable creative journey over these last decades, winning great influence as one of the recognised centres of Russia’s film industry”, Mr Putin said in his message of congratulations. “The studio has always attracted renowned masters and professionals of the highest calibre, and many of the wonderful films born within its walls have become treasures in the world’s cinematographic heritage.

It is pleasing to see that you lovingly preserve and build on Lenfilm’s glorious traditions. I am sure that the studio will continue to make a great contribution to developing Russian culture and, of course, will give viewers many more fine films to enjoy”.

Those who have worked at Lenfilm over the years include such cinema legends as Sergei Eisenstein, Grigory Kozintsev, Leonid Trauberg, Sergei Yutkevich and the Vasiliev brothers. Over the ninety years of its existence, the studio has produced around 1,500 films, many of which have become world cinema classics. Films made at the studio have received more than 200 prizes at international film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Locarno and San-Sebastian.
