Vladimir Putin signed a Decree on Social Support for Invalids

May 6, 2008

The decree was signed in connection with the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945 and the obligations the state has towards certain categories of citizens. According to the decree, in 2008–2009 citizens who were disabled in the Great Patriotic War, participants in the war who subsequently became invalids, invalids who were formerly prisoners in concentration camps, ghettos and other places of detention established by fascist forces and their allies during the Second World War, will receive a free car or equivalent monetary compensation. The document also identifies several other categories of citizens eligible to receive a free car or monetary compensation.
