The first meeting of the Anti-Corruption Council took place in the Kremlin

A package of anti-corruption bills that will soon be put to the State Duma for adoption were discussed at the meeting.

The head of state said that the priorities in the fight against corruption include strengthening the legal system, protecting property rights and the expansion of free enterprise. Proposed measures include: ensuring transparency and fairness in competitions and with regards to the conclusion of public contracts as well as the removal of unjustified prohibitions and restrictions, particularly those that relate to economic activity.

Dmitry Medvedev stressed that fundamentally lowering the level of corruption is a strategic challenge facing the country.
