Velikie Luki, Veliky Novgorod and Dmitrov have been awarded the honorary title City of Military Glory

Dmitry Medvedev issued decrees conferring the cities Velikie Luki, Veliky Novgorod and Dmitrov the honorary title City of Military Glory.

The title is awarded to cities in which their defenders displayed courage, fortitude and mass heroism during fierce battles in the struggle for the freedom and independence of the Fatherland. In these cities a tablet with the text of the presidential decree will be set up and fireworks and public events will be held on 23 February, Defenders of the Fatherland the Day, and 9 May, Victory Day and City Day.

Earlier, in 2008 and 2007, previous presidential decrees have already conferred the title City of Military Glory to Tuapse, Rostov-on-Don, Polyarny, Luga, Voronezh, Elets, Yelnya, Rzhev, Malgobek, Vladikavkaz, Orel, Kursk and Belgorod.
