Dmitry Medvedev's trip to Izhevsk was devoted to increasing the competitiveness of the Russian economy

November 18, 2008

Dmitry Medvedev visited the Izhevsk radio manufacturing plant in the capital of Udmurtia – a major centre for machine building, electronics and the defence industry. The plant is a high-tech, modern company whose products are used in the space industry, transport, and the oil and gas industry.

The President chaired a State Council meeting ”On Measures to Promote National Competitiveness in a Global Financial Crisis“ in Izhevsk. The meeting set out the tasks for the federal and regional authorities in this field.

As the head of state emphasised, Russia needs to create conditions to support exports at both the federal and regional levels, use all instruments required to successfully compete with foreign producers, and encourage the expansion of existing and developing new markets.
