The President held a meeting of the State Council Presidium on improving Russia's corrections system. Mr Medvedev emphasized the need to humanize the corrections system, improve conditions in correctional facilities, and bring the laws on the corrections system into line with international standards. Mr Medvedev also indicated the need to draw up effective programmes for former prisoners’ social rehabilitation.

During the working trip the President also visited the Vologda Juvenile Correctional Facility.
