During the visit, Mr Medvedev will hold talks with his Italian counterpart, President Georgio Napolitano, and they will take part together in the official ceremony handing back to Russia the Russian Orthodox Church pilgrimage compound in Bari.
The visit is at the invitation of Mr Napolitano.
