President Medvedev laid out five major tasks in this field:

- determining priority areas of application of supercomputers and grid computing [simultaneously applying multiple servers to a single task] in national security and socio-economic development;

- developing measures to improve the domestic electronic component base so that it better corresponds with the production needs of supercomputers;

- creating a legislative framework that applies to supercomputers;

- ensuring the conditions for constructing grid networks and developing specialised software; and,

- organising a special system for training experts in Russia's leading universities.
