Celebrating the 70th anniversary of D-Day

Following an official breakfast hosted by the French President, Vladimir Putin took part in celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the allied forces’ D-Day landing in Normandy.

During the events in Normandy, Mr Putin spoke briefly with French President Francois Hollande, US President Barack Obama, Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, and President-elect of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

Earlier in the day, the President had a separate meeting with Angela Merkel.

Events to mark the anniversary of the June 6, 1944 D-Day landing in Normandy take place every five years, with the participation of foreign heads of state and veterans.
