Dmitry Medvedev sent greetings to participants in the Eighth WTO Ministerial Conference.
The telegram reads, in part:
“Within the framework of the Eighth WTO Ministerial Conference, you have approved the decision for Russia to join the World Trade Organisation. This outcome of lengthy and difficult talks will benefit both Russia and our future partners. I thank all the participants in those talks for reaching this important result.
The current conference is taking place at a crucial period for the global economy. Today, it is important not to allow for the globalisation of local and regional crises. We must continue taking steps to liberalise the economy based on a set of clear and uniform rules applicable to everyone. We must develop a just and efficient trade system and strengthen multilateral international institutions.
I am certain that the powerful potential of the WTO will serve to resolve these issues and will generally promote global economic stability. Russia is ready to contribute as much as possible into this work.”
