Mr Medvedev stressed the need for urgent measures to overcome the textile industry’s technological backwardness and noted the importance the sector’s development has for improving the social situation in the region.

The President said that encouraging investment into the sector is a strategic priority and also pointed out the need to protect the Russian market from illegal textiles imports and goods illegally manufactured on Russian territory.

Mr Medvedev congratulated the leadership and residents of Ivanovo Region on the ninetieth anniversary of the region’s founding.
