This decision was taken at the 38th CIS summit that opened in Astana, Kazakhstan. Mr Putin gave a positive appraisal of the work done by his predecessor as president of the council, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma.
The leaders of the CIS member countries first held talks in a restricted format and later were joined by the member countries’ delegations for the session of the Council of Heads of States.
