Russia and Kyrgyzstan signed a memorandum on developing and improving the bilateral legal framework governing the stationing of Russian troops on the territory of Kyrgyzstan

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed a Declaration of Intent of the Russian Federation and Republic of Kyrgyzstan on the Development and Improvement of the Bilateral Legal Framework Governing the Stationing of Russian Troops on the Territory of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and the Deployment of an Additional Russian Military Contingent on the Territory of Republic of Kyrgyzstan.

In accordance with the document an additional Russian military contingent numbering no more than a battalion [a military unit of around 100–1500 people] will be deployed on the territory of Kyrgyzstan and training centre for troops from Russia and Kyrgyzstan will also be established.
