President Dmitry Medvedev sent a telegram of condolences to President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao following an earthquake in Sichuan Province that left many people dead or wounded and caused considerable destruction

Mr Medvedev’s telegram reads, in particular:

“I ask you to convey my words of sympathy to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to all who were injured suffered in the disaster.

We are ready to help if necessary with the disaster relief effort”.
