Military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the Chinese people’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japan and the end of World War II

September 3, 2015, Beijing

In Beijing, Vladimir Putin attended a military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the Chinese people’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japan and the end of World War II.

Some 12,000 officers and men marched through Tiananmen Square, including the guard of honour of the Russian Preobrazhensky Independent Commandant’s regiment.

Representatives of the Russian Armed Forces concluded the marching portion of the parade. They wore special parade uniforms of the Russian Army, Navy and Air Force.

After the parade, Vladimir Putin took part in a gala reception marking the 70th anniversary of Victory.

The USSR provided assistance to the Chinese resistance movement in the course of the 1937–1945 Sino-Japanese war. Thanks to the efforts of the Soviet military experts, the Chinese army’s battle casualties fell sharply by early 1939. The actions by the armed forces of the USSR and Western allies made it possible for China to repel the aggressor.
