Mr Kara-ool briefed the President on measures the region is taking to support young families and develop the transport and energy-sector infrastructure.
In particular, Mr Kara-ool spoke about some of the socioeconomic development efforts underway in the region. They include some big infrastructure projects such as the Kyzyl-Kuragino railway, energy supply and energy security activities, and construction of social sector facilities. New power transmission lines and the reconstruction of two substations have been completed as part of the Kyzyl-Chadan energy project. One of this year’s main projects is the construction of a new medical centre, while the construction of a new school has already begun.
Mr Kara-ool also requested permission to step down from office ahead of term in order to take part in the gubernatorial elections, which will take place in autumn simultaneously with the federal parliamentary elections. Mr Putin said he had no objections, all the more so as the elections will show how much support Mr Kara-ool has among the region’s voters.
