Vladimir Putin took part in the working sessions of the heads of state and government of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
The discussion focused on the situation in the global economy, integration processes in the Asia-Pacific region and establishing an Asia-Pacific free trade zone. Food security, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and expanding cooperation in education were also discussed.
Following the Meeting, the 2016 Leaders’ Declaration was adopted which reflects the agreed-upon approaches of the APEC economies to the development of multi-faceted cooperation in the region.
Before the session Vladimir Putin had a brief meeting with President of the United States of America Barack Obama. The presidents expressed regret over the lack of progress in the Ukrainian settlement. They also underscored that the last two months of President Obama’s term should be used to continue to search for a solution in Syria.
The President of Russia answered journalists’ questions following the APEC 2016 Leaders’ Meeting.
