Vladimir Putin visited the Rogozhskaya Zastava Spiritual Centre of the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church. Accompanied by Metropolitan Kornily, the President visited an exhibition, The Power of Spirit and Loyalty to Tradition, which opened at the Church of the Nativity of Christ, and visited the Cathedral of the Intercession, the main cathedral for the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church.
The exhibition The Power of Spirit and Loyalty to Tradition was organised by the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church together with the State Historical Museum. It presents unique items of old-rite culture from the 16th-20th centuries, rare examples of ancient Russian manuscripts and printed books, icons, items for use in churches, and documents from the 19th-20th centuries on the old-rite church’s history. Head researcher at the State Historical Museum Yelena Yukhimenko and priest Alexei Lopatin explained the exhibits to the President.
Rogozhskaya Sloboda is a historical district of Moscow that emerged in the late 16th century. Old-rite merchant families traditionally settled there and the district became the spiritual centre for Moscow’s old believers’ community. Today, the architectural ensemble counts 50 buildings and is undergoing large-scale restoration. The site is home to the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church’s Metropolitan.
