Greetings to the Primakov Readings International Forum

June 29, 2017

Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to all taking part in the Primakov Readings International Forum.

The President said, in particular, in his message:

“Interest in Yevgeny Primakov’s political and intellectual heritage remains as strong as ever and the ideas of this outstanding statesman and thinker, his assessments and predictions, have lost none of their pertinence.

I am happy to see that the Primakov Readings, which bring together politicians, diplomats, journalists, and, above all, members of the academic and expert communities, have entered the top ten on an international rating of the most prestigious conferences on foreign policy issues. The National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) that deservedly bears Mr Primakov’s name, plays a great part in organising the forum.

In today’s complicated international climate, open discussion between academics, experts and policy analysts from various countries can help us to overcome differences and prejudices through exchange of useful information and intellectual developments.

It is important that this year’s forum is looking to the future, as reflected in its theme: The World in 2035. I am sure that you will have interesting discussions that will analyse key global development trends and enable you to look beyond the horizon and reflect on what the world community can expect over these coming decades.”

The Primakov Readings International Forum takes place in Moscow on June 29–30.

Yevgeny Primakov was a politician, public figure, and diplomat. He was one of Russia’s leading experts in oriental studies and a prominent scholar in the fields of the global economy and international relations. Mr Primakov was Prime Minister (1998–1999), Foreign Minister (1996–1998), and Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (1991–1996).
