Dmitry Medvedev instructed Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu to provide assistance to Indonesia in overcoming the earthquakes consequences

Earlier, Dmitry Medvedev sent his condolences to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono following the earthquakes in Sumatra.

The telegram reads, in part:

“I was deeply grieved by the tragic news about the earthquakes in Sumatra which caused numerous deaths and severe destruction.

Our country and its people share the pain of this hard moment with you and the friendly Indonesian people.

Russia is ready to provide the assistance required to overcome the consequences of the disaster which stroke your nation.

Please, pass on my sincere condolences to the victims’ families, and my best wishes for a speedy recovery to all who were injured.”
