The President of Russia gave a high assessment to the Russian-French cooperation and noted he is counting on engaging in a constructive dialogue with France concerning a new treaty on European security and various international matters.
Participating in the meeting were the Russian members of the Council, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, and their French counterparts Bernard Kouchner and Herve Morin.
The Security Cooperation Council is a mechanism for coordination between Russia and France in foreign affairs and security policies where the most essential international problems and issues of bilateral cooperation are discussed and respective common approaches sought. The Council was set in 2002 by a decision made by the countries’ presidents. Its sessions alternate between Moscow and Paris.
