Greetings to heads of CIS security and intelligence agencies

December 19, 2017

Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to participants in the meeting of the Council of Heads of the CIS Security and Intelligence Agencies.

The message reads, in part:

“By holding regular meetings, you promote multilateral cooperation in combatting terrorism, extremism, trafficking in narcotic substances, and transnational crime.

It is obvious that in today’s world we need to come up with new and better ways of responding to global challenges and threats. International terrorist organisations operating in Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa pose the greatest threat to the CIS countries.

Terrorists are trying to use these regions as a base for further expanding their operations. It is here that they recruit and train new fighters, and send them to other countries in order to destabilise them. For this reason, it is essential that national security agencies devise coordinated approaches to overcoming challenges they face, be more proactive in sharing their experience, operational data and analytics, as well as work with civil society.

I am confident that your meeting will be held in a constructive atmosphere, and its outcome resolutions and recommendations will strengthen our countries’ security.”
