Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the 6th Youth Judo Tournament held in memory of distinguished trainer of Russia Anatoly Rakhlin, who would have turned 80 on May 23.
The message reads, in part:
“Anatoly Rakhlin was a top professional, a wise, strong, fair and highly educated person. He played a very important role in my life, and in the lives of many of my comrades. In fact, he was not just a coach, but rather a mentor and a big brother. During training, he always required athletes to give it all they had, motivated them to win and taught them to believe in themselves and their team. Outside of training sessions, he always took care of his students, and helped them whenever they faced any challenges.
It is essential that Anatoly Rakhlin’s teachings and his creative legacy and ideas live on and are perpetuated by enthusiasts and people who care. It is also gratifying that a high-profile tournament is held in St Petersburg, his native city, to honour this wonderful master.”
