Russian-Vietnamese talks

September 6, 2018, Sochi

Vladimir Putin received General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, who is in Russia on an official visit.

The discussion focused on major issues of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation and regional matters. A number of bilateral documents were signed following the international consultations.

A joint declaration on the results of the official visit by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the Russian Federation was signed.

Also signed were an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in ensuring international information security and a protocol to the agreement between the governments of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on cooperation in establishing a Joint Tropical Research and Technology Centre in Vietnam of March 7, 1987.

In addition, documents were signed on cooperation in ensuring sanitary and epidemiological welfare, on information exchange and cooperation in monitoring payment systems (oversight), on cooperation in agriculture, LNG supplies, development of gas electricity generation and training personnel for civilian use of nuclear energy.

The documents signed also include a project on building a centre for nuclear science and technology in Vietnam, construction of a power plant in Quang Tri Province, and projects in Sector 09–2/09 on Vietnam’s shelf.

The Russian Ministry of Culture and the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism signed a cooperation programme. The Russian Interior Ministry and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security signed a programme of cooperation for 2019–2021.
