Greetings on the opening of the 1st Russian Fathers’ Forum, Fathers’ Role in Modern Families: State Policies and New Prospects

February 19, 2019

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants and organisers of the 1st Russian Fathers’ Forum, Fathers’ Role in Modern Families: State Policies and New Prospects, in Ekaterinburg.

The message reads, in part:

“The government prioritises supporting families and improving the demographic situation. That is why it is so encouraging to see significant events, including your forum, which contribute to improving the efficiency of these important and much-needed efforts.

By bringing together participants from many Russian regions, leading experts and specialists in the sphere of family relations, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, as well as researchers and cultural figures, this forum addresses important issues of enhancing the role of fatherhood in the process of strengthening family values and educating younger generations. Throughout the ages, the head of the household in our country has always been the pillar of prosperity and stability that embodied confidence in the future and, by being a mentor, defender and a trusted friend, has had immense respect and undisputed authority among children.

In this regard, I would like to commend the large-scale, multifaceted activities of the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights office, which created the Fathers’ Council in Russia. Today, the father community is expanding its working forms and methods, actively participating in implementing social projects and programmes, and is taking concrete action to contribute to solving pressing issues in the sphere of family and child protection.”
